Q. How do I know what size to buy?

A. To find your ideal size, use a ruler and mirror to measure your face from temple to temple, and use the following chart as a guide only:

Suggested Frame Size

Face Size (temple to temple)

57mm

127mm or 5”

62mm

133mm or 5.2”

Q. Can I go to my local optician to get prescription lenses made for RE Ranger frames?

A. No, all prescription lenses for RE Ranger frames must be done through an Authorized RE Optical Dealer that is authorized to sell RE Ranger products. Since these highly skilled opticians specialize in shooting eyewear, they can meet the intricate needs of shooting lenses.

Please note: Randolph Engineering does not directly provide prescription services.

Q. How do I care for my RE Ranger lenses?

A. For everyday cleaning, simply wipe the lenses with an RE Lens Cloth, provided with every RE Ranger frame. For a more thorough cleaning, wash the lenses with a mild soap or detergent and warm water, rinse and shake dry, then wipe off excess moisture with an RE Lens Cloth. RE also provides a Lens Cleaning Kit with anti-fog lens cleaning solution. Click here to learn more.

Q. What is a CMT lens, and how exactly does it work?

A. CMT, or ColorMag Technology uses photo-active materials in the lens coating to amplify only the orange region of the light spectrum, increasing the contrast between the target and its background. ColorMag reduces overall light transmission by absorbing all the colors of light evenly, much like a standard lens. But only ColorMag then relocates this absorbed energy through a quantum shift to convert it into orange light. It can deliver up to 250% more orange light than a standard lens without effecting background colors.

A standard orange lens highlights an orange target, but it also color shifts everything else around it. This gives an orange hue to everything you see. Seeing an orange target against a background that’s also been made to appear more orange is far from optimal. Only ColorMag lenses increase orange light without adding an orange hue to any other color.

ColorMag Technology is available exclusively through Randolph Engineering.

Please note: Like other photo-active products, CMT lenses will diminish in affectivity over time- this is normal. Avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and placing them in the case when not in use will maximize product life. These lenses are not designed for use as everyday sunglasses, and are not permitted for driving.

Q. Can RE Ranger plano lenses be made into prescription lenses?

A. No, a prescription lens needs to be ground from a specialized lens blank, which is much thicker than our plano lenses. Please contact an Authorized RE Optical Dealer that is authorized to sell RE Ranger products to purchase prescription lenses for RE Ranger frames.

Q. What lens tints should I buy?

A. Any serious shooter or outdoor enthusiast will benefit from the right lens tints, although choosing which tints will work for you can be difficult. Here are 3 important factors to consider while selecting your tints:

Confidence Level - What tints have you used in the past? Most likely, the tint you’re most accustomed to will give you the most comfort and confidence while shooting.

Light Conditions - The trick is to get your eyes as focused as possible. Your pupils regulate the amount of light that enters your eyes - just like a camera shutter. In low light, your pupils enlarge to allow more light into your eyes. As a result, your eyes become less focused. In bright light, your pupils decrease in size and allow your eyes to focus on distant objects. A simple rule to get maximum focus on a target is to use a lens tint that lets as much light in as possible without squinting your eyes. To follow this rule, you’ll need different lens tints to use in varying light conditions.

Background - What background are your targets in front of? You’ll want to use different lens tints according to the colors of your background to highlight your target. For instance, if you’re shooting orange clay targets in front of green trees, you’ll most likely want purple or vermilion lenses that dull greens and highlight oranges. If your background has glare, such as water, you’ll most likely want to use a polarized lens. See our tint descriptions as a guide to help you choose the lenses that are right for you.

Q. Are your ALLSport lenses available in all your frames?

A. Currently, our ALLSportÔ Polarized lenses are available in only the Ranger XLWÔ

Q. What are polarized lenses?

A. Polarized lenses reduce glare from reflective surfaces such as water, snow, or the hood of a car. This is done through a process called polarization, which works much like Venetian blinds reduce sunlight through a window.

Basically, sunlight is either absorbed or reflected horizontally, diagonally or vertically through polarized light-waves. Horizontal polarized light-waves cause the most problems for the human eye. When light reflects off of a horizontal surface, it hits your eye at the same angle. As a result, the glare you see is even stronger than the ambient sunlight around you. Polarized lenses have a filter containing tiny horizontal blinds that allow only vertically polarized light to enter your eyes. Glare is eliminated because the horizontally-polarized light can’t get past the horizontal blinds.

Since glare (or horizontally-polarized light) is 7-10 times stronger than ambient light, it’s extremely harsh on your eyes, resulting in fatigue or headaches. Our Polarized Gray lenses filter glare at above industry standards for further protection and visual clarity.
