Randolph Engineering, Incorporated was founded in 1972 by Polish immigrants, Jan Waszkiewicz and Stanley Zaleski. They met a decade before while working at a small tool & die company in South Boston. In pursuit of the American dream  they ventured out to start their own business in Randolph, MA.The two entrepreneurs  built tooling, dies and machinery for the then thriving US optical manufacturing industry. Through determination and a tireless work ethic Randolph Engineering became one of the leading optical tool & die companies in the country.

In the late 1970’s Randolph Engineering started manufacturing Mil-Spec Aviator sunglasses for the United States Air Force as a subcontractor producing in excess of 200,000 sunglasses annually. Led by Jan’s sons, Randolph won the government bid to become the prime contractor in 1982. By the late 1980’s Randolph had expanded into the commercial sunglass market after civilians learned about the quality of its sunglasses and prescription frames through military channels.

Today Randolph remains an iconic brand accelerated by a growing demand for genuine, well-made products with a strong American heritage. Tried and true manufacturing methods are maintained using the machinery and tooling created by the founders. Randolph Engineering, Inc.  is still owned and operated by three generations of the Waszkiewicz and Zaleski families along with a highly skilled and dedicated American workforce.

At Randolph Engineering we believe that personal integrity is as important as financial success. Whether it’s manufacturing using methods that leave a small carbon footprint or supporting non-profit organizations, we care about our employees, our community and the environment.

We take pride in supporting American manufacturing by:

  • sustaining American jobs and creating new positions for the future
  • sourcing Made in USA items whenever feasible
  • providing a fulfilling and safe workplace for the people who work in our factory

Military Heritage

1978 – Randolph produces eyewear as a subcontractor for the US Military.

1982 – The United States Air Force contracts Randolph to produce the HGU-4/P Aviator Sunglass directly.

1990, Desert Storm – The Department of Defense contracts Randolph to produce 70,000 optical inserts annually for the M17 chemical-biological mask.

The D.O.D. requests an accelerated delivery of optical inserts. Randolph postpones its commercial program, working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet wartime demand.

Randolph delivers 200,000 units before the conclusion of Desert Storm.  The D.O.D. canceled the remaining 100,000 units due to the stoppage of the war. Not a single unit is returned due to quality issues.

An Air Force Colonel personally visits the Randolph factory to thank its employees for the patriotic and timely support of the Armed Forces. A Certificate of Appreciation is presented to the Chairman of Randolph Engineering.

2000 – Randolph is awarded their first contract for the Frame of Choice (FOC) spectacle program which provides soldiers with an alternative to current standard-issue military spectacles for Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and NASA.

2012 – Randolph currently supplies the HGU-4/P to the US Army and Navy and allied Air Forces world-wide and maintains the Frame of Choice contract, now in its 3rd 5 year term.

“I couldn’t be happier with your Ranger RX glasses.Quality is hard to find today and your product is absolutely a top of the line item. I feel they were definitely were the cost.  I have recommended them to a number of fellow shooters.”

Paul Pecoraro, Hamden, CT

“I just received a pair of aviator sunglasses from RE, and I wanted to let you know how impressed I am with them. The build and quality are extraordinary, and the optics are precisely what I was hoping for. I am not aware of another pair of sunglasses in this price range (or higher price ranges for that matter) that provides as much quality as these do.”

– Ryan Scannell, USA

“ I have used RE Aviator sunglasses for years and to say they are great would not be enough. I have been asked why I don’t get another style. Well it goes back to my days in the United States Air Force and flying as a flight mechanic on the C-5a…. I continue to live my aviator dream wearing my RE Aviators.”
— Dennis McGowan, USA

“Thank you so much for your quick and painless process for returns. Fast and thoughtful customer service is too much for most companies to handle these days. You have been a wonderful exception to come across!”
— Rob O’Keefe, Hammond, WI

“I recently purchased a pair of your aviator glasses, and discovered the frames were too large. I subsequently shipped them back the next day, and within a few days you had returned a pair in the proper size-no questions asked. This timely response is refreshing in this age of sub-par customer service. Furthermore, the glasses themselves are of the highest quality (particularly the hinges and ground- glass lenses which are distortion free). The tool kit is also a nice touch. I will be a repeat customer. Best wishes for the success of your operation.”
— Stephen Etzwiler, Las Vegas, NV

“Thanks for the outstanding service and warrantee support. This is what makes Randolph Engineering aviator sunglasses the best value in the industry! I wouldn’t fly without them!”
